FAQ’s

Can all students in a registered school participate in World Fit?

Yes. Only the students in the school’s approved grades can register as students. Those could include from grades 3-12, but are usually middle school levels. If you are a student in any school but cannot register as a student, either because you are not in an approved grade or your school did not register, you can still register as a World Fit Buddy, track your miles and donate ½ of your daily miles to any student registered in the Walk.

If I suspect another student is not logging in accurate miles, what should I do?

The best thing to do is to let your teacher or athletic director know about it. They have a pretty good idea of what students are doing during and after school and can handle the situation.

Can I come to the school and walk on campus any time or on weekends to count miles?

No. The campus Walking miles are only to be done during designated school hours by each school during the day and always under the supervision of at least one staff member. Organized campus walks can be done outside of normal school hours only if they are approved and supervised by a staff member. If you walk on weekends or after school anywhere, you can still count those miles, but you must enter walking as a sport credit, rather than campus miles.

If I decide to run or jog around the campus instead of walk, will I get more credit?

Of course you will. By running or jogging, you will complete more laps and therefore reach more miles in the same amount of time than if you walked.

Can I wear my music player and headphones while I am walking on campus?

That is up to your school. However, one of the things we like about the World Fit Walk on campus is that it gives you a chance to talk to your friends and teachers while you are exercising. Talking to one another is an important skill that you cannot learn by texting or emailing. Save your music and texts for later.

What if I have to take the bus each day to and from school?

There are always minutes during the day when you can walk. It is up to your school to determine when they are. They may be right before classes begin or after school before the bus leaves or during lunch, recess or PE. They just have to figure out what works best for them.

Can students form teams within the school?

Yes! We encourage each school to form teams using the teachers as captains. A team could be the teacher’s class or homeroom or whatever the school decides. Team results can be monitored on the website daily. Not only is there competition in World Fit among schools, but also within schools. It is the competition and school spirit that drives the success of World Fit.

Can a student register as a Buddy also?

No. You register as either one or the other, but not both.

What if I forget my username or password?

Don’t worry. Ask your teacher or school contact to help retrieve it for you. They will have the record of all the student’s usernames and passwords for your school. It is better to ask, than not log in your miles.

If I am in a sport, how do I count my hours of participation?

You should count only the hours that you are actually playing or exercising. If you are out for some period of time, or standing on the sidelines watching, that time should not be counted. When logging in, round off your sport time to the nearest 15 minutes.

Can I count walking between classes?

No. Since we don’t know how far that is, we can’t count it. All of the campus miles need to be done on a course on the school property or adjacent to the school property under supervision. In all cases the course should be measured so you will know the distance of each lap. To determine the miles you need to multiply the distance of each lap (in miles) by the number of laps. Then enter that number each day.

Can I log in by cell phone?

Yes. You can log onto our website and enter your daily miles and track them from your cell phones. It is an easy process and should enable nearly all students to log in daily.

What if I forget to log in my miles some days?

No problem. The computer will allow you to go back as far back as you forgot, so long as you are registered. Just make sure to enter the correct miles, as it is easy to forget. It is always better to enter your miles each day at the end of the day or early the next day for the previous one. If you register some time during the Walk, you can only enter your miles from that day forward.
